April is a great month to double check environmental compliance

On Behalf of | Apr 8, 2016 | Civil Appeals |

With Earth Day rapidly approaching on April 22, this is a good month for businesses and organizations to think about their approach to the environment. Are you compliant with all environmental laws that apply to your location and industry? If not, you are risking large fines, sanctions and even lawsuits — all of which damage your bottom line and could even put smaller organizations out of business.

One area where laws and regulations are especially complex is related to the protection of water. Water is one of the most important natural resources on the planet. People, animals, plants and the planet itself rely on water for existence and life, which is why so many organizations are involved in protecting water sources.

How you use, treat and dispose of water in your organization is critical to your compliance with local, state and federal laws. Did you know, for example, that you might have to filter or otherwise treat runoff water that is a by product of your business before you return it into the environment? In most cases, the law wants you to return water to the environment in the same state — or in an even cleaner state — that when you took it from the environment in the first place.

Our firm understands the challenges in keeping up with environmental requirements and applying regulations within a production environment. We also know that environmental litigation can take valuable time and resources you need to run your business. We can work with you to help you maintain compliance, and if you are accused of being noncompliant, we can help you deal with the legal actions that follow.
